AUTOIMMUNE DISEASES: WHAT CAN I DO TO PREVENT?

Hey guys...

After sitting down and planning out my content for you... and thinking about how food relates to almost every symptom we have... I realized that I have a lot of clients struggling with autoimmune issues and recent diagnosis!

Most autoimmune conditions are triggered by FOOD & YOUR GUT.

80% of our immune system lives in our digestive system and approximately 800 billion microbiomes are what makes up this very important arena. If our microbiomes are OFF or are being compromised by things like environmental issues, stress, medications, toxins and of course our diet... or our poor FOOD choices, then maybe this is why I am seeing so many patients and clients being diagnosed!!!

A normal, not compromised immune system will attack bacteria & viruses as they enter the body and we detox them out.

A compromised immune system plasma cells produce antibodies...and your body's defense mechanism cannot tell the difference between your cells and the foreign cells (antibodies) and these antibodies begin to attack your own normal cells, organs & tissues.

Some of the reasons this happens is when bacteria and viruses enter the body, we overload on certain medications or antibiotics... which in turn kills our good bacteria (our defense system) leaving our immune system vulnerable .

Other medications that highly contribute are statins and blood pressure medications. This is why I try to get my patients/ clients to avoid medications or drugs to address an issue or to wean off if they can.

Here are some things you can do today to avoid an autoimmune disease from creeping or brewing in your body. Keep in mind, many times people are not symptomatic or they don't connect that the symptoms are related.

INCREASE ANTIOXIDANT FOODS...Based on current research...the following antioxidant foods have immune-boosting

  • Citrus foods

  • Red bell peppers

  • Almonds

  • Sunflower seeds

  • Walnuts

  • Beans

  • Garlic

Increase your leafy dark green, red and yellow veggies and fruits to

protect your system with phytochemicals.

I have discussed in many of my emails the benefits of anti-inflammatory foods. When an autoimmune is diagnosed or brewing ... many times it is due to increased inflammation in your body.

INCREASE ANTI-INFLAMMATORY FOODS:

  • Olive oil

  • Salmon/ fish

  • Legumes & nuts

  • Fruits

TAKE ZINC...13 mg. for adult men & 9 mg. for adult women.

ADD PREBIOTICS: Such as Saccharomyces Boulardii or a fiber supplement. These will feed your "good bacteria" and keep your immune/defense system nourished.

STAY HYDRATED: Simple, right!! Drink plenty of fluids. Keeps your blood flushing out toxins that can lead to inflammation & viruses and helps transport nutrients to your tissues.

LIMIT ALCOHOL.. I know, I know in moderation, but it doesn't help

EXERCISE:  keeps joints lubricated & tissues flexible. It powers your immune system and lowers your risk of illness. Even 15-20 minutes of raising your heart & breaking a sweat can have immune boosting benefits.

GET CONSISTENT SLEEP...

REDUCE STRESS...Last but not least, A must!!

So to wrap this up... being consistent with your personal health & fitness regime is imperative to keeping your defense system working properly... Keeping those bugs out and your body detoxing!
