Did you know today is American Zoo Day!

Updated: Jun 30

Well it is…

“American Zoo Day, celebrated on July 1, is all about bringing the importance of zoos to the forefront.”

Originally zoos were small confined spaces that were more or less a prison for animals; however, things changed over time as people became educated regarding animal rights.

Today, our modern zoos in America are quite huge and provide an environment that reflects as close as possible to the natural habitat of the confined animal. Today our zoos are performing a role of a sanctuary rather than a place where animals are put on display.

Just a little information about why I am sending you this email…

Well, just recently, I have become more of an animal lover since 2020 when my son rescued a staffordshire terrior/pitbull mix from Mexico and I immediately fell IN LOVE!

Not only are we bonded since I have helped raise him when he was a puppy, but he has provided so much emotional support to our family in so many ways! He has been there for my son through some difficult times… and has been a “true friend” for him! As for me, he listens to me when I talk to him… and YES I talk to him like he is one of my kids!

He responds by giving me his paw to say he loves me and his ears flop back when I am talking to him. OMG those ears… I also get so much joy when his ears are flopping on his walks…I can’t tell you how happy he is…you would have to see it with your one eyes! But of course, I think you know! And just being with him makes ME HAPPY!

So, since today was American Zoo Day (celebrating all animals), I thought it was an opportunity for me to share my love for my pet grandson. During COVID, many people brought dogs into their lives to help with the isolation and need for emotional support. I can now more than ever see how our pets bring us so much joy!

You may be asking, how does this relate to nutrition… well it doesn’t directly but indirectly. IF YOU ARE EMOTIONALLY STABLE… and feeling good, you are more than likely to be healthier… by eating clean (not emotionally eating), exercising, being social and playing with your pets!!

Animals Education Nature & environment promotes knowledge, understanding, skills, attitudes and values related to human involvement in the lives of animals. It includes the effects of animals abilities to satisfy their needs and human responsibilities to them as a result.

To honor and celebrate American Zoo Day, I am suggesting you head out to the nearest zoo and be prepared to see beautiful animal species you may never have seen before!!

As always, I hope I find you all safe & healthy…

You mean the world to me!

Michelle
